Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Wednesday, September 3 held a fruitful engagement with the national executives of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) in Accra, as part of his ongoing stakeholder consultations ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The meeting forms part of Dr. Bawumia’s broad-based engagements with professional bodies, trade groups, and civil society organizations to listen, consult, and co-create practical solutions to Ghana’s development challenges.
Dr. Bawumia explained that the engagement was to afford him the opportunity to listen first-hand to the concerns, experiences, and aspirations of nurses and midwives – who he said are at the heart of Ghana’s healthcare delivery system – to inform his policy formulation for the 2028 election.
The leadership of the GRNMA welcomed the invitation and shared candid insights into the state of healthcare in Ghana.
Their inputs focused on key priority areas including, nursing education and continuous professional development, healthcare infrastructure and logistics across the country, and ddressing recurring challenges of industrial actions and strike-related disruptions.
The interaction was highly engaging and productive, with both sides exchanging ideas on building a modern and resilient health system.
In his remarks, Dr. Bawumia thanked the national executives of the GRNMA for their honesty and thoughtfulness, noting that the ideas shared would provide important insights into building a stronger, more resilient, and better-managed healthcare system that delivers for both health workers and patients.
Dr. Bawumia also reiterated his belief that Ghana’s nurses and midwives are indispensable partners in national development and assured the Association that their welfare and professional growth will remain a central pillar in his vision for transforming healthcare in Ghana.
Dr. Bawumia’s stakeholder engagements continue in the coming days with other professional bodies.
