BKQ Foundation, an Accra-based NGO noted for its philanthropic projects, has donated assorted items including food stuff and cash to residents in three constituencies in the Volta Region affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.
The beneficiary constituencies are North Tongu, South Tongu, and Ketu North. They received bags of rice, milo, milk, sugar, water, toiletries and blankets among others
The Founder of the BKQ Foundation, Mr. Benjamin Kofi Quashie who led the team to the ravaged communities was utterly shocked by the extent of destruction.
Official report suggests that over 26,000 people have been misplaced by the flood as many fear the health implications of the situation as properties including houses, schools, mortuary as well as cemeteries have been submerged in water.
At a short ceremony to present the items in the North Tongu constituency, Mr. Benjamin Quarshie called for more support for the affected communities.
“I came with my team to commiserate with our people who have been affected by this unfortunate and catastrophic situation.”
After being conducted round some of the communities by the MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mr. Quashie observed, “This is devastating, I wouldn’t wish this for my worst enemy. It is a catastrophe beyond imagination; all I can say is that as Ghanaians we should show our support to our brothers and sisters in this part of the country.”
Considering the enormous nature of relief items needed by the victims, he pledged that the BKQ Foundation “will do more” by returning to provide support that would alleviate their plight.
Two Members of Parliament and a representative of the other who received the donation on behalf of their people were grateful for the support and promised to immediately distribute the items to the victims.
