Bugri Naabu urges post-primaries unity in NPP

The former Northern Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has urged various aspirants in the upcoming parliamentary primaries on Saturday to accept the results and unite after the elections.

Bugri Naabu said any division after these primaries will spell doom for the party in December 7 elections.

The former Chairman made the call in an interview with Onua TV in Accra.

The governing NPP will have its outstanding parliamentary primaries for 168 constituencies on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

These constituencies where the party has sitting Members of Parliament (MPs).

The primaries have been outstanding since April 2020 due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), culminating in the imposition of restrictions on movements and mass gatherings across the country.

Before the outbreak, the party selected parliamentary candidates for all other constituencies where it has no sitting MPs.

In the full interview, which will be telecast on Onua TV’s Maakye on Friday ahead of the elections, Mr. Bugri Naabu said “they should all be patient and go for the contest”.

“Those who would lose should still come and support the party and those who would win should work hard and bring more people to join the party.”

He explained that “the NPP alone, we may not be able to win the way we want but if we can go and pull some members from the NDC and pull members from the other political party, you will see that we will win the election like we won in 2016”.

“Members of Parliament will win and the President will win,” he explained.

Aftermath of Saturday’s primaries

Mr. Naabu said: “They shouldn’t think we have won the election so that is all. They should come out and sell the party properly to Ghanaians so that a day after the general elections in December 2020, we will be dancing and drinking some wine in our homes”.

He said MPs “should be patient and come out and unite the rest. Those who won should not think they have won so that is all. It is the party and the government we want so after Saturday, they should come together and work to win”.
