The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has invited Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo again for questioning.
His invitation is in relation to recent kidnap cases in the country as well as some fire outbreaks that have occurred at certain government institutions.
There has been a number of incidents of kidnapping since last year, with the most notable one being the kidnapping of some three teenagers in Takoradi raising debates in public circles about security situations in the country.
Last Sunday May 5, there was a fire outbreak at the office of the Administrator of Stool Lands in Takoradi.
This is one of the fire outbreaks at some state establishment in the past year.
Following these developments, the police and other security agencies have been investigating the happenings to find the cause of these incidents as well as proffer solutions to curb them.
In a letter directed to Mr. Ofosu Ampofo and signed by the Director General of Police CID, Commissioner of Police, Maame Tiwaa Addo Danquah, the CID noted that the NDC Chairman’s name came up during investigations.
“Some of the persons picked up for interrogation and investigation have mentioned your name as part of a grand scheme to cause fear and panic in the country.”
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is therefore expected to report at the CID office on Thursday, May 9 to assist in investigations.
Meanwhile, a member of the NDC legal team Abraham Amaliba has told TV3 News 360 on Wednesday that the legal team was holding an emergency meeting to consider the invitation and advise their chairman accordingly on whether to attend the invitation or not.
