As part of the global and national effort in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, Philipa Baafi Foundation, owned by ace female gospel musician Philipa Baafi of ‘I go dance’ fame, has gifted some relief items to the government of Ghana and some deprived communities in Accra.
President Nana Akufo-Addo in his fifth Covid-19 address to Ghanaians announced that 400,000 individuals in Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Kasoa – where a partial lockdown has been imposed – were to benefit from social intervention programmes such as free food.
The Ministries of Gender, Children and Social Protection and Local Government and Rural Development, and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), working with MMDCEs and faith-based organizations, have since provided and continue to provide food for up to 400,000 individuals and homes daily in the locked-down areas.
NADMO in quantifying how much the government is spending on daily basis observed that government is spending GH¢2 million on the hot meals.
The Communications Director of NADMO, George Ayisi, says each pack of food costs the state GH¢5 for these over 400,000 people.
This called for the involvement of individuals, organizations, companies, philanthropists and people like Philipa Baafi and her foundation to augment the government’s efforts in mitigating the impact of the pandemic on the vulnerable in the society.
During the presentation, she said it was to help complement government’s efforts in making sure that the homeless, needy and less privileged in the society are well taken care of during this lockdown period.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison, who received the food items on behalf of the government of Ghana, expressed gratitude to Philipa and her foundation.
The Minister urged other musicians to emulate Philipa Baafi and donate to help government mitigate the impact of the pandemic on the citizens.
Distributions
The ace gospel singer and her team after the presentation moved to Kokrobite and Old Bortianor and its environs in Accra to also share food, drinks and water to the aged and children in the vicinity.
Release of single song
Philipa Baafi recently released a single song ‘Awurade Fa Yen Sie’, which forms part of her 20-year celebration in the music industry of Ghana.
