E/R: NPP to stop losing aspirants from going independent

The Eastern Regional General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jeff Konadu, says the party will use the laws to restrain any losing aspirant who intends to contest the December 7 parliamentary elections as an independent candidate or on the ticket of any other party in any constituency in the Region.

Addressing a press conference in the capital, Koforidua, Mr Konadu said the party was poised to increase vote margins in both the Parliamentary and Presidential elections.

Flanked by other executives, the regional scribe pointed out that the executives were of the conviction that the results from the weekend’s elections represented the aspirations of people in the constituencies.

“This election saw some sitting Members of Parliament exiting. The party views this development as the expression of the will of the electorates and a part of deepening the democratic credentials of the NPP.”

He added that the regional executives have the firm conviction that those who have been duly elected by the delegates represent the aspirations of people in the constituencies.

“These are men and women who have sacrificed to push the Eastern Region into the realms of sustained development both for today and future generations.”

He called for an all-inclusive campaign and warned any loser who flouts the memorandum of understanding would be dealt with lawfully.

“We will lawfully restrain anyone who goes independent or contests on the ticket of any party. An agreement was made as part of the electoral process already.”

They took the opportunity to warn the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Region not to engage in any untoward act during the impending registration exercise to be conducted by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) later this month and jabbed them for failing to get candidates for some constituencies few months to general elections.

“As a party, we wish to send a note of caution to the opposition NDC and their incompetent leader as well as like-minded persons who will cause any form of destruction during the process. The party will use all legitimate means within the confines of the law to repel them. The NDC is struggling to have people putting themselves up on their ticket. This demonstrates the mass rejection of Mr. John Mahama’s second term bid even among their ranks.”
