Music producer Kaywa strongly believes that celebrated sound engineer Zapp Mallet is Ghana’s all-time best producer.
Kaywa, born David Kojo Kotey, believes that Zapp Mallet has over the years influenced and inspired a lot of producers in the country.
His comment is coming at a time that social media is buzzing with #BehindTheHitz challenge which has seen producers face off in throwback sessions of their hit songs.
Last Thursday, Zapp Mallet took a swipe at Sarkodie for pairing him with producers he deemed as not his co-equal.
Sarkodie had invited Zapp Mallet, Jay Q, Appietus, Kaywa, Hammer, and MoG to join the challenge.
The veteran producer, known for the production of several hit songs including Daasebre Gyamenah’s ‘Kokooko’, Akyeame’s ‘Mesan Aba’ and Kofi B’s ‘Mmobrowa’, said is it disrespectful of Sarkodie to pair him with these producers.
“There is something called respect which is lacking in Ghana today. For instance, you don’t compare somebody who was churning out hits before you made Kindergarten with your mate who just started a couple of years back. Show some respect, You will also get there,” a very unhappy Zapp Mallet (Emmanuel Mallet) tweeted.
While speaking in an interview on Showbiz 927 on 3FM with MzGee, acknowledges that Ghana has been blessed with a lot of quality producers, Kaywa conceded, “…for me Zapp has brought me there I won’t lie to you”, even though he believes some people may think otherwise.
He stressed “…but Zapp Mallet trust me…[is the best]” .
Nevertheless, the ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ hit producer explained that, “even though I will say that Zapp Mallet brought us to where we are right now we have all contributed our quota… Listening to all of us, we are all unique.”
