The Government of Ghana has expressed profound sadness over the passing of Overlord of Dagbon Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, extending condolences to the Royal Family, the people of Dagbon, and the nation at large.
In a statement issued by the Presidency on Monday, July 13, President John Dramani Mahama, on behalf of the Government, conveyed his deepest condolences during what he described as a period of immense grief for the Dagbon Traditional Area.
The statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, said the late Ya-Na would be remembered as a distinguished traditional ruler whose reign brought healing, reconciliation, and lasting peace to Dagbon following years of conflict.
According to the Presidency, His Majesty’s unwavering commitment to unity, stability, and the welfare of his people created an enabling environment for development and strengthened the enduring partnership between traditional authorities and the Government in advancing progress across Dagbon and Ghana.
The Government paid tribute to the life and legacy of Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, honouring what it called his invaluable service to the nation, and expressed hope that his wisdom, leadership, and dedication to peace would continue to inspire future generations.
The statement ended with a prayer for his soul to rest in perfect peace.
