GUTA strikes trade deal with UK in the wake of coronavirus

The Greater Accra Regional branch of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) says it has entered into an agreement with the U.K High Commission Department of International Trade. The agreement is to enable it members travel to the United Kingdom to buy goods since they are unable to travel to China to do business as a result of the outbreak of the coronavirus. The death toll in mainland China continues to climb, with 1,113 deaths and 44,653 coronavirus infections reported on Wednesday. At least 25 countries have confirmed cases and several nations have evacuated their citizens from Hubei. Two deaths have been recorded outside mainland China – one in Hong Kong and one in the Philippines. Streets have been deserted in China. Factories, offices, shops and many other businesses have also been closed. In Ghana, GUTA in a statement on Wednesday said the effects of the virus now referred to as COVID-19 have had a toll on its members. “We the traders in Ghana have gotten our share of the effect of the outbreak as it has resulted in shortage of goods since our traders cannot go to China for goods now.” In view of the situation, the leadership of the Greater Accra GUTA said it contacted the British High Commission Department of International Trade in the quest to help traders to have easy access to UK’s market. “We are by this release informing the traders to contact the office of the Greater Accra GUTA to help them with the necessary documentations to travel to the United Kingdom to purchase goods.” By Isaac Essel | 3news.com]]>
