Reelected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has spoken for the first time after results in Saturday’s presidential primaries went in his favour.
Addressing his supporters at his campaign office in Accra, Dr Bawumia admitted the race has been a “fierce battle”.
“It’s been a fierce battle that we have waged across the country,” he said.
“We couldn’t have gotten here without the team,” he stressed, expressing gratitude to his National Campaign Coordinator, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, and the Campaign Manager, Feed Opare Ansah, for the outcome.
He also thanked the party’s members of Parliament (MPs), especially those who supported him, and the national executives for successfully organising the polls.
“We are standing on the broad shoulders of former flagbearers of this party,” he added, paying glowing tribute to the late Professor Albert Adu Boahen, John Agyekum Kufuor, and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for starting what he is continuing.
“They have built the party and taken the party this far and it’s really humbling that I have been elected as flagbearer to continue the work they have started.”
Though official results are yet to be declared, Dr Bawumia is expected to win by a landslide per results collated so far.
