The alleged Takoradi serial killer kidnapper, Samuel Wills, is expected to appear in court on Monday February 11 to face judgment for breaking from police cells where he was being held to assist in investigations into some kidnappings.

Wills’ failure to appear in court on January 28 angered some residents and relatives of the three kidnapped girls in Takoradi, and accused the police of feet dragging in the case.

  • Police in Takoradi fail to bring kidnapping suspect to court

Police prosecutors explained that the accused person missed his court date because he was being interrogated by the Police CID in Accra.

The Police in the Western Region decided to try the suspect first on the escape charges, separate from the kidnapping charges against him.

Consequent to that, Wills was on January 9 arraigned on charges of escaping from lawful custody, resisting arrest and causing damage to police property. Hearing of the case was done three weeks ago.

  • Alleged kidnapper who escaped from cell tried without a lawyer

Three prosecution witnesses- all police officers- were called to evidence on Wills’ escape from Police cells. Prosecutors then informed the court they had concluded their case, following which the court fixed January 28 to deliver judgement but on the said date he failed to make appearance.

Checks by Takoradi-based Connect FM revealed a new date, February 11, has been fixed for the accused person to appear before the Takoradi District Court to receive his judgment in the cell break case.

Kidnapping charges

A source close to the case also revealed a decision has been made to try the kidnapping charges against Wills in Accra.

Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, 18; Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21; and Ruth Love Quayson 18, were kidnapped between August and December 2018.

Their whereabouts is unknown as Police say they have not been able to get credible lead from the accused person to rescue the girls, a situation that has left their relatives agitated over the period.
