Kwesimintsim: NDC candidate disinfects churches, mosques

The Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kwesimintsim Constituency in the Western Region, Philip Fiifi Buckman, has begun an exercise to disinfect selected places of worship in the constituency.

According to him, the exercise forms part of his efforts to help places of worship – churches and mosques – prepare and combat the spread of Covid-19 after the President announced the lifting of the ban on religious gatherings though with a limited number of worshippers.

“It is an undeniable fact that churches and mosques get money to run their activities when they are able to organize service. Since the restrictions on them due to the Covid-19, this stream of revenue has been badly affected. Now, the President has announced that places of worship can commence service. As part of measures to enable them start service, they are required to embark on a disinfection exercise. To be honest, not all of them will be able to take on this unplanned for expenditure. So, in consultation with my constituency executives, I decided to help take on that financial burden.”

Lawyer Fiifi Buckman explained he has categorized the disinfection exercise into two phases to enable him plan adequately and disinfect as many places of worship as possible.

“There are so many places of worship in Kwesimintsim. Some are well-to-do, others are not. Some attract more than others. So, we have strategically mapped out the beneficiary places of worship for the disinfection so others do not feel left out. I am hoping to disinfect over 20 places of worship and in order to ensure that the exercise gets the desired impact, the exercise will be in two phases. Thankfully we were able to successfully disinfect eight churches and two mosques in the first phase. The response from the beneficiary places of worship was very encouraging.”

A spraying gang from EN Ghana Limited, an accredited disinfection company, undertook the first phase of the exercise last week.

The gang disinfected pulpits, pews, church halls, vestries, praying mats, car parks and entire compounds.

Some of the beneficiary places of worship included Christ the King Methodist Church Freeman Society Kwesimintsim, Church of Pentecost Anaji East Central, St. Anthony of Padua, and the Kwesimintsim Central Mosque.

Speaking to 3news.com after the exercise, Fiifi Buckman said he feels fulfilled to have contributed to the work of God.

“I feel so fulfilled. I know the blessing is immeasurable. I believe what I have done will be pleasing in the eyes of God. That, I have been able to help His house prepare to receive His children to me is quite refreshing. I will encourage others to emulate.”

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Effia, Michael Otoo, also undertook a similar exercise to disinfect churches and mosques.
