The Minority in Parliament has served notice to summon the leadership of Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) over the recent audited accounts when Parliament returns from recess.

According to the Minority, there is a loss of $1.7 billion, which has been denied by the Board.

Addressing journalist on Tuesday, August 18, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin indicated that his caucus has always sought the summons of the Board but that has always been blocked by the Majority in Parliament.

“When Parliament returns from recess, we will file a new motion that will deal exclusively with the $1.7 billion which is equivalent to GH¢22 billion,” Mr Afenyo-Markin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Effutu, said.

“It is that debt that we will summon GoldBod for.”

He urged the Board to call on the Majority led by James Agalga not to use its numbers to block the motion.

Apparently, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Board, Sammy Gyamfi, had gone on his official Facebook page to express readiness to debate the “losses” attributed to his firm.

“The blatant lie being persistently peddled by Afenyo Markin that the GoldBod has made losses, is only a figment of his hallucinatory imagination,” he wrote.

“What a joke of a Minority Leader he is.”

Mr Afenyo-Markin said he sees the comments by “the darling boy” as a challenge.

“If, indeed, [GoldBod] is ready, then we propose to the Majority, don’t stop us a second time.

“Don’t use your 189 to vote against against an invitation to GoldBod for a probe into what accounted for the GH¢22 billion losses.”
