Morocco has once again lost a bid to host the FIFA World Cup.
At the 68th FIFA Congress on Wednesday, Morocco’s 2026 World Cup bid lost to an unprecedented bid – dubbed the United Bid – from United States of America, Mexico and Canada.
Out of a total of 200 votes, 134 voted for the United bid while 65 voted for the African bid. One abstained.
The result is the fifth time the North African country is failing in its attempt to host the mundial.
The result will come as a big relief to USA after it lost the 2022 World Cup bid to Qatar.
The 23rd World Cup will witness an expansion of the 32-team tournament to 48 teams for the first time.
Nine African nations will play at the tournament.

That decision was ratified by the FIFA Council on May 10, 2017.
Before 2026, Russia will host this year’s edition – which begins on Thursday 14 June – and Qatar hosts the 2022 edition.
After 2026 in North America, it is likely the tournament will be hosted in South America by Uruguay to mark the centenary celebration of the mundial.
