The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has handed a five-month suspension on the Chairman of the Awutu Senya East Constituency, Stephen Ofosu Agyare.
This follows a petition brought against him by the Member of Parliament, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor.
In a letter sighted by NewsfileGH and signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the Functional Executive Commitee (FEC) of the party took the decision to suspend the constituency chairman.
It was taken in collaboration with the Central Regional Council of Elders of the party.
“Having extensively deliberated on the matter, FEC found sufficient basis to invoke the provisions of Article 48(4) and Article 48(6) of the party’s constitution.
“Accordingly, you are hereby suspended from your position as Constituency Chairman of Awutu Senya East Constituency for a period of five(5) months, effective immediately.”
The statement on Wednesday, July 22 further indicated that the matter has been referred as well to the National Disciplinary Committee “for investigation and appropriate action in accordance with the Constitution of the party”.
During this period of suspension, Mr Ofosu Agyare is restrained from performing any party activities or exercising any authority as Constituency Chairman.
It is unclear what matter was brought against him by the MP.
