
The 2018 National Science and Math quiz began on Monday with the preliminary round involving 18 schools on Day 1.
Returnees Achimota School, who have also won the contest twice in its history, began on a winning note after beating St Louis SHS and Atebubu SHS in the second contest on Monday.
The contest held at R.S Amegashie Auditorium at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) saw Motown winning by 14 points; they got 44 at the end of the contest with St Louis behind them with 30 points.
Not only is SLOPSA the first casualty but Notre Dame SHS in Navrongo also lost to Breman Asikuma SHS in one of the final contests of the day.
The Central Region school closed the contest on 31 points ahead of the Upper East Region side and their regional counterparts TI Amass-Ekumfi.
They qualify to the next stage of the competition.
Among other qualifiers on Day 1 are Yaa Asantewaa SHS, St Peter’s SHS, Sandema SHTS and Akwamuman SHS.
The contest continues on Tuesday.
Pope John’s SHS will be among the contestants as they come face-to-face with fellow seminarians St Francis Xavier Jnr Seminary and Swedru SHS.
