Gabby Otchere-Darko, founder of the Africa Prosperity Network and a key political strategist, has reiterated his decision to remain silent on the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming primaries, despite admitting he has a preferred candidate.
Scheduled for January 31, the NPP primaries will see over 200,000 delegates vote, forming what Otchere-Darko described as “the largest electoral college in the party’s history.” He noted that the outcome of this vote will serve as a microcosm of national sentiment ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In an exclusive interview on GHOne with Serwaa Amihere, the political strategist acknowledged public curiosity about his support, especially given past discussions around Dr. Bawumia’s performance in previous primaries. However, Otchere-Darko maintained his position: “I have my preferred candidate… but I won’t express it. Let the candidates go out there and convince the delegates.”
He further warned against the misrepresentation of his opinions, noting that both positive and negative interpretations can be “twisted” to serve political narratives. For him, the focus should remain on candidates engaging delegates directly and winning their confidence.
Asked about who could potentially defeat the opposition NDC in future elections, Otchere-Darko kept his response neutral, describing the contest as “a beauty contest” whose outcome will depend on the delegate vote.
His stance mirrors his approach in the 2023 primaries, when he also refrained from publicly endorsing any candidate. “It wouldn’t matter if I do or not,” he said, stressing that party delegates’ decisions should carry the most weight.
With the NPP primaries approaching, all eyes will be on the party faithful to determine the next candidate to lead the party into the 2024 elections.
