The Yendi Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the temporary closure of all schools in the municipality following the death of the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II.
The sad incident occurred over the weekend but was announced on Monday, July 13 by the Naa Gbewa Palace.
He has since been buried.
The closure of schools as decided in conjunction with the Northern Regional Directorate of the GES takes effect from Monday to Thursday, July 16.
“Academic activities are expected to resume on Friday, 17th July 2026,” a short statement indicated.
The late Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II became the 41st king of Dagbon on Friday, January 18, 2019, ending 16 years of conflict between the Abudus and Andanis.
