John Dramani Mahama’s “reset agenda” is kicking into high gear as the new big boss at Ghana’s pension powerhouse, SSNIT, has dropped a bombshell: NONE of their properties are going up for grabs
Kwasi Afreh Biney, the freshly appointed Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust, declared the Trust will hold onto every single one of its assets. His plan? Turn them into money-making machines to rake in fatter returns for hardworking Ghanaians.
Biney made the stunning announcement at the opening of SSNIT’s new Spintex Road branch in Accra, telling everyone to calm down. “No need to panic,” he insisted, “President Mahama’s government won’t jeopardise your future”
He promised a major shake-up, vowing to transform struggling assets into cash cows. “Watch out for what we will do with our facilities that were to be sold,” he teased. “I can assure that we will not sell those facilities, and we will turn them around.”
This marks a massive U-turn for SSNIT’s investment strategy, aiming to boost their bank balance and win back public trust. It comes after a huge public outcry last year when MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong tried to snap up several SSNIT-owned hotels, claiming they were losing money.
The controversial list included popular spots like Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, and Elmina Beach Resort. But the proposed fire sale sparked outrage, leading to a formal complaint from MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), citing a string of alleged dodgy dealings.
Now, with Biney at the helm, it seems the days of flogging off Ghana’s assets are well and truly over
