The 2020 Summer Transfer Window: A Rundown

This year’s summer window promises to be one of the biggest in a while, with clubs slashing down on prices for their players due to the coronavirus pandemic.

European Giants such as Chelsea and Bayern Munich have already made massive statements in the transfer window with the signings of Timo Werner and Leroy Sane respectively, and with the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona also on the hunt for certain players, this transfer window will be an exhilarating ride. So strap in and let’s get started.

1. Real Madrid C.F

Los Blancos will be looking to defend their crown next season. They have ridiculous squad depth and quality cover for almost every position, but there are still a few chinks in the armour they could solidify this window.
Dream signing – Eduardo Camavinga (Rennes)
Realistic signing – Presnel Kimpembe (PSG)
Low cost signing – David Soria (Getafe)
Wildcard signing – Predrag Rajković (Reims)

2. F.C Barcelona

Barca are coming off the back of a disappointing season in which they may yet go trophyless. With the pressure mounting on the board and the coach, they may yet dip into the transfer market to prevent a repeat of this next season.

Dream signing – Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan)
Realistic signing – Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad)
Low cost signing – Boubacar Kamara (Marseille)
Wildcard signing – Matias Zaracho (Racing Club)

3. Liverpool F.C

The Reds were rampant in the 2019/20 season, winning a treble. With the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea potentially aiming for their throne next season, strengthening in this transfer window may go a long way in deciding whether the title stays at Anfield or not.

Dream signing – Thiago Alcantara (Bayern)
Realistic signing – Ozan Kabak (Schalke)
Low cost signing – Donyell Malen (PSV)
Wildcard signing – Weston McKennie (Schalke)

4. Manchester City F.C

The Citizens would not have been pleased with the manner in which they were swept aside by Liverpool during the race for the title this season. Their pockets continue to run deep though, and we may well see some new faces at the Etihad next season.
Dream signing – Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli)
Realistic signing – Ferran Torres (Valencia)
Low cost signing – Oscar Melendo (Espanyol)
Wildcard signing – Wilfried Ndidi (Leicester)

5. Manchester United F.C

Man United had an excellent finish to the season. The Red Devils were unbeaten in the league from February through to July, and will look to strengthen this summer to be able to challenge for the league title once again.
Dream signing – Jadon Sancho (Dortmund)
Realistic signing – Raphael Guerreiro (Dortmund)
Low cost signing – Konrad Laimer (Leipzig)
Wildcard signing – Samuel Umtiti (Barcelona)

6. Chelsea F.C

Chelsea have done well to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League after a transfer ban and the loss of star player Eden Hazard last summer. The Blues have already strengthened significantly with the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, and more signings in the right areas could see them mount a serious challenge for the league title next season.

Dream signing – Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid)
Realistic signing – Kai Havertz (Leverkusen)
Low cost signing – Nicolas Tagliafico (Ajax)
Wildcard signing – Raphaël Varane (Real Madrid)

7. Tottenham Hotspur F.C

Spurs have had an underrated finish to the Premier League season. They were in 14th place when Jose “The Special One” Mourinho took over in November, but ended the season eight places above in sixth. They could look to improve on that position next season with key signings this window.
Dream signing – Nelson Semedo (Barcelona)
Realistic signing – Theo Hernandez (A.C Milan)
Low cost signing – Habibou Diallo (Metz)
Wildcard signing – Anderson Talisca (Guangzhou Evangrande)

8. Arsenal F.C

The Gunners could potentially miss out on Europe entirely if they fail to beat Chelsea in the F.A Cup final on Saturday. It would be the end result of yet another disastrous season in the top flight for the ones blazing Arsenal, but they could finally end a barren spell next season with the right signings this window.
Dream signing – Thomas Partey (Atletico Madrid)
Realistic signing – Nathan Ake (Bournemouth)
Low cost signing – Jonathan David (Gent)
Wildcard signing – Thiago Almada (Velez Sarsfield)

9. Juventus F.C

Champions of Italy yet again, there seems to be no stopping Juventus on the domestic front. They have been unlucky in recent years on the European stage however, and may have to dip into the transfer market in order to turn their continental fortunes around.
Dream signing – Ciro Immobile (Lazio)
Realistic signing – Jorginho (Chelsea)
Low cost signing – Duvan Zapata (Atalanta)
Wildcard signing – Marcelo (Real Madrid)

10. Inter Milan

Antonio Conte’s men have had a very strong showing this campaign, with their exploits seeing them in the title race for majority of the season. They may have to strengthen further in the transfer market though after the acquisition of Achraf Hakimi if they have designs on the Scudetto next season.
Dream signing – Piotr Zielinski (Napoli)
Realistic signing – Marcos Alonso (Chelsea)
Low cost signing – Carlos Vinicius (Benfica)
Wildcard signing – Adama Traoré (Wolves)

11. A.C Milan

La Rossonieri have had a tumultuous nine tenths of a decade since they won the Serie A in 2011. They will be praying that this summer will finally mark the end of their mediocrity and hoping to see fresh faces who will lead them back to their glory years.
Dream signing – David Neres (Ajax)
Realistic signing – Marc Roca (Espanyol)
Low cost signing – Adnan Januzaj (Real Sociedad)
Wildcard signing – Dani Ceballos (Real Madrid)

12. F.C Bayern Munich

Bayern have been the most dominant side in Europe this season. With the ruthless Robert Lewandowski up front and the rapid Alphonso Davies at the back, the German machine have ripped apart almost every side that has been in their way this season. And they could make their great team even better with the right signings this transfer window.

Dream signing – Tanguy Ndombele (Tottenham)
Realistic signing – Marcel Sabitzer (Leipzig)
Low cost signing – Teun Koopmeiners (AZ Alkmaar)
Wildcard signing – Aaron Ramsey (Juventus)
