Former Minister Kwakye Ofosu has criticised the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government over what he describes as the absence of planned funding for the Agenda 111 hospital project.
Speaking on the challenges of operationalising the mega healthcare initiative, Ofosu highlighted that unlike other major infrastructure projects, such as Terminal 3 at Kotoka International Airport and the Kejetia Market redevelopment, which were fully financed through secured loans and investments, Agenda 111 lacked any earmarked funds.
“The NPP tried to scratch around for money within the government’s budget, but it was obvious the resources were insufficient,” he said.
He further challenged claims that some of the Agenda 111 hospitals were operational, asserting that none had admitted a single patient when the current government assumed office.
Ofosu’s remarks underscore ongoing debates over project implementation and fiscal planning in Ghana’s healthcare sector.
