Asante Kotoko’s unbeaten run in their CAF Confederation Cup campaign was brought to an end on Sunday by Al Hilal of Sudan.
Ghana’s Porcupine Warriors went down to a 40th minute goal by Waleed Hamid in Omdurman.
Kotoko had not tasted defeat since announcing their continental campaign, though they have drawn once – with Kariobangi Sharks in Kenya.
They managed to make it to the group stage with a home-and-away win over Cameroon’s Coton Sport Garoua.
But on Sunday, Al Hilal broke the Warriors.
The loss puts Kotoko behind the Sudanese and Zambia’s ZESCO United, who beat compatriots Nkana 2-0 to go top of Group C. Kitwe-based Nkana are bottom of the group.
The Ghanaians will be hosting the group leaders in their next encounter in barely a fortnight.
