Four-year-old Toby Apomuta Abotisum has been diagnosed with a condition called Pulmonary Atresia Ventricular Septal defect popular known as Hole in Heart.
Young Toby needs a curative surgery to repair his defect, but doctors at the Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital say the operation cannot be done in Ghana due to limited logistics, and that it ought to be done in India.
An amount of $14,000 is needed for the operation, and this amount covers travel costs and other expenses totaling an equivalent of GHȻ 100,000.
The family of the four-year-old is therefore appealing for support.
Toby Apomuta Abotisum is unable to play with his age mates as expected of a child because of his condition.
His condition was detected a year ago at the Amiah Hospital in Bolgatanga after which he was later moved to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, but both hospitals were unable to give him the necessary care due to the lack of adequate medical logistics.
However, a Cardiology Centre in India, Max Healthcare, has been contacted to carry out the operation at an estimated cost of $14,000 including costs of air tickets for both child and mother and other expenses totalling an equivalent of GHȻ100,000.
Parents of the child Bismark Apomuta Azorko, a teacher, and Vida Abengyuure, currently a petty trader, are struggling to raise this amount for the surgery to be done in India.
The child continues to suffer from periodic episodes of breathing difficulties, affecting his general health.
The family is appealing to the general public to come to their aid with cash donations.
