The government has disclosed 2. 5 million cedis has been allocated for the preparedness and response action towards the fight against the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus infection which the World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared a global crisis.
At a news conference in Accra, Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, said some measures have already been mounted to prevent the disease from entering the country.
The virus has shown evidence of human-to-human transmission, with the number of cases sharply increasing to thousands with several deaths.
As at February 4, over 20,000 cases have been reported from China and 26 other countries and the death toll stands at 427.
Even though no case has been confirmed in Ghana yet, the World Health Organisation has declared Ghana a high risk country.
Screening is done for fever using walk-through thermometers and non-contact thermometers with the Health Ministry indicating that efforts are underway to ensure all the points of entry have non-contact thermometers.
The sector minister said key messages and alerts have been developed for use by the general public aimed at providing public education on the outbreak and preventive measures.
He added the Ghana Health Service has sent alerts to all regions and districts to activate the respective public health emergency management committees.
