The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kwaku Asomah Cheremeh, has instructed the Ghana Manganese Company to resume operations.

This follows an order for the company to shut down over its inability to fulfill its financial obligations by generating enough revenue.

Four days after the closure, the Minister in a statement dated Friday, August 9 has directed the company be re-opened.

According to Mr. Asomah Cheremeh, there have been engagements between his ministry, other government stakeholders and management of the Ghana Manganese Company and an agreement has been reached on how the issues confronting the company will be resolved.

“In light of the good faith shown by the company to work with Government towards amicable resolution, including the joint manning of the weigh bridge located at the mine and tonnages loaded unto ships to guarantee accurate computation of revenue, I have asked the company to resume its operations.”

The Minister further noted his ministry is doing everything possible to protect the interest of all employees.
