Some unidentified youth in the Karga District of the Northern Region have attacked a Fulani settlement at Bakurgu, killing several livestock’s belonging in the area.

About 65 houses, motorbikes, bicycles and money have been torched by the attackers.

Four of the Fulani who received cutlass wounds and swollen faces from beaten they received, are also receiving treatment at the Tamargu CHPS compound in the Karga District.

Confirming the incident to 3news.com, the Northern Region Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yussif Tanko said on Sunday police in Karga received information that some youth had attacked a Fulani settlement at Bakurgu in the same district.

He said the police quickly mobilized men and rushed to the scene where they met a section of the community under attack.

DSP Tanko confirmed 65 houses, money, motorbikes, bicycles and other properties were burnt.

He added that some livestock’s belonging to the fulanis were also killed.

“Preliminary investigations disclosed that on Saturday August 24, a Fulani man took his cattle to graze and one of them strayed into a rice farm destroying portions of the farm prompting the owner to mobilize the youth to attack the Fulani settlement” he said.

He added that though no arrest has been made, the police are working assiduously to get the perpetrators to book.

DSP Tanko appealed to the public to desist from taking the laws into their own hands but to always seek redress from the appropriate quarters.
