Asante Kotoko beat Tunisia’s Etoile Sportive du Sahel 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday to have one foot in the group phase of the 2019/2020 CAF Champions League.
They will have to play at least a draw in the second leg on Friday, September 27 to seal qualification.
The Porcupine Warriors started on a good footing after Augustine Okrah found the back of the net after just five minutes of play.
His set piece sent the thousands of vociferous fans at the Baba Yara Stadium into raptures.
But the supporters had to endure 50 minutes of missed chances.
It took Richard Arthur 10 minutes into the second half to extend Kotoko’s lead.
Coach Kjetil Zachariassen expressed optimism about his charges’ display and believes they can qualify at the expense of the 2007 champions.
