The families are waiting to meet the IGP[/caption] Families of the girls who went missing in the Western region late last year are at the Police Headquarters in Accra to receive the skeletal remains of persons the police say are the girls. Following the discovery of some skeletal remains of four bodies in the Western region on two locations in early August, a DNA test was conducted on the skeletons in Accra the following month. The Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh at a press conference in September said the test proved positive. “A few minutes ago, officers of the Ghana Police Service informed four (4) families in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana that DNA tests conducted on some human remains discovered in the course of Police investigations into the disappearance of four (4) missing girls have turned positive as the remains of the girls,” the IGP told the media. Some family members rejected the DNA result and demanded for an independent forensic test. The family of Ruth Love Quayson told TV3 after the police had done their announcement that the DNA result was “fake”. Ruth Love Quayson, 18, went missing on December 4, 2018. The other girls Ruth Abaka, Priscilla Blessing Bentum, and Priscilla Kuranchie went missing on July 29, August 15, and December 21 respectively in 2018. The prime suspect, Samuel Udoetuk Wills and his accomplice are currently standing trial. Meanwhile, families of three of the girls numbering about 20 are expected to meet the IGP on Thursday to demand the detailed DNA results and the supposed remains of the victims. [caption id="attachment_131882" align="aligncenter" width="544"] The first sets were discovered at Kansaworodo, where the prime suspect stayed[/caption] Amos Kojo Obeng Tawiah, a family member, told 3news.com’s Komla Klutse that they are ready for the remains. He said once they receive the skeletons, they will conduct their own test and bury the remains. He was sure the police will not deny them their request, if indeed claim by the police that skeletons are that of the missing girls is true. Mr. Obeng Tawiah said arrangement has been made for three caskets to convey the remains to Takoradi. Michael Grant Hayford, Spokesperson of the family, noted that the families were conveyed to Accra in a police vehicle, which gives them the highest assurance that the skeletons would be given to them on Thursday. “We demanded for the certified copy of the [DNA] report, just the hard copy, they couldn’t give it to us, they told us that we have to come and see the IGP himself, so that possibly we can see the skeletons,” he said, noting that he would be “surprised” they would be brought all the way to Accra and go back without the remains.
