The young man who invaded the pitch during Ghana’s Black Stars match against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa has finally been released from police cells.
Awal Suleman gave the security details at the Robert Mensah Sports Stadium in Cape Coast a ‘good run for their uniform’ on Thursday evening. The atmosphere erupted with cheers and jeers as Awal treated the spectators to almost a never-ending chase when the match was in session with some minutes to end it all.
Unfortunately for him, a combined security force of more than 10 men, after a sort of merry-go-round episode, amidst tumbling, grabbed Awal Suleman in the loin area and whisked him out of field of play tiptoeing.
He later said he had wanted to take a picture with the Athletico Madrid star Thomas Partey.
“I wanted to snap a picture with Thomas Teye Partey, I like the way he plays so I just wanted to have a picture with him,” Awal told Joy News

Awal was however locked behind bars.
Many who felt a mere caution would have sufficed took to social media to demand his release with the hashtag FreeAwal.
He was however released by the police on bail not after spending two nights at the cells.
Awal, who is a nurse waiting for posting used to ran the 400 meters race at Apam Senior High School.
The game ended with Ghana humbling their visitors by two goals to nil.
