The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has hosted the governors of the Millennium Excellence Foundation to discuss the upcoming 20th Anniversary and Awards of the Foundation – the Millennium Excellence Awards 2020.
This was when the governors paid a courtesy call on him led by the President of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, Ashim Morton, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to brief him about preparations towards the event to take place at the Fantasy Dome in Accra on 11th July 2020.
Otumfuo, Life Patron of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, was briefed by the Board of Governors and invited him to grace the auspicious occasion that will see several African Heads of States attend.
The Asantehene who was satisfied with the progress of work so far, offered wise counsel to the governors of the Foundation to shape the preparation towards the landmark celebration, and also assured them of the necessary support and his presence at the awards night in July.
He will thus lead a retinue of chiefs and queens from the Asante Kingdom to Accra to attend this year’s awards ceremony that is expected to seat about 6,000 dignitaries for a five course dinner.
This year’s landmark event, launched at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on February 13 by Paramount Chief of Asokore, Dr Nana S.K.B Asante, and the chairperson of the Foundation Mrs. Grace Amwy-Obeng, is being celebrated on the theme “Together We Can Win the Future Through Excellence”.
Since the year 2020, the Foundation has been celebrating and rewarding individuals and corporate entities for their outstanding records and contribution to the socio-economic development of Ghana every five years.
More than 1,600 Ghanaians and corporate institutions have been nominated in the 35 competitive categories of the awards held every five years. Thirty-five of them who will stand out will be celebrated and given awards for their outstanding contribution to national development.
