AN OPEN LETTER TO NANA AKUFO ADDO,PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA.BY REV CHRISTIAN KWABENA ANDREWS, PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF THE GHANA UNION MOVEMENT IN THE 2020 GENERAL ELECTION.

Your Excellency, I am constrained to write to you today and have taken the liberty to make the letter open to the general Ghanaian public because of the seriousness I attach to the issue I am going to raise with you.

As you may know, Your Excellency, The Ghana Union Movement’s primary political objective is to restore the numerous industries established during the Kwame Nkrumah era which have been systematically sold off to private business concerns or allowed to rot away deliberately following the coup that toppled the Nkrumah Regime. We believe that unless and until we re-establish these industries to create viable jobs for our youth and the general public the economy of this country will forever remain in the doldrums and disadvantage the youth especially many of whom are roaming the streets of our cities and towns without any useful work to do.

Your Excellency, in the last couple of weeks Ghanaians have become aware of the pulling down of the structures of the Ghana Trade Fair site at La. What we do not know is the purpose for which this action is being taken. If the intention is to rebuild the infrastructure there to create new opportunities to help out thousands  of hard- pressed  people living in La ,Osu,Teshie and Nungua and others in the surrounding areas we of the Ghana Union Movement have no objection to that. We will commend you for that .However, if the intention is to pull down the structures and sell the site to foreign Commercial interests we are vehemently opposed to that and will do everything in our power to stop it if I am elected into office as President. We, therefore, call on you not to sell off the site because if you pursue that objective it will not only damage the economy of the people living in the area but will have profound negative effect on the national economy for many years to come. We call on the people of La,Osu ,Teshie and Nungua to oppose this sale and to do everything in their power to stop it.

Today, Your Excellency, the Central Business District, encompassing the Makola Market area, Kantamanto, the Timber Market etc was unplanned in the first place and is currently completely choked to vehicular traffic. This is the time for Government to redevelop the markets in Osu, La, Teshie and Nungua to meet the needs of the rapidly growing population and re-establish a multi –purpose market complex at the Trade Fair Site to reduce the pressure on the old Central Business District in Accra.

Your Excellency, unless you pull back from the sale of the Trade Fair site and state explicitly that you will never sell off the site to any foreign interests the Ghana Union Movement will call on the youth and the people in these areas to mobilise massively and vote for the presidential candidate of the Ghana Union Movement to stop the sale and restore the Trade Fair Site to Ghanaian ownership.
