BetPawa Premier League Leaders, Aduana Stars have suffered a home ban after the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) slapped an indefinite ban on the Nana Agyemang Badu Park.
A GFA statement FA explained that the ban followed the “the unfortunate incidents that occurred after the Match Day 25 clash between Aduana FC and Tamale City FC (outside the park) played on April 2, 2023”.
The FA explained that its decision was in accordance with the Premier League Regulations [Article 14(2)] which states that “the GFA may order the closure of any league centre where the safety of clubs, Match Officials or Spectators cannot be guaranteed.”
It advised the Competitions Department of the FA to determine the venue for Aduana’s subsequent home matches in accordance with Article 14(3) Premier League Regulations. “The order is without prejudice to the determination of the case pending before the Disciplinary Committee who have been charged to hear the case in accordance with the relevant regulations,” the statement added.
Aduana defeated Tamale 1-0 last Sunday through a late spot kick converted by Isaac Mintah six minutes into added time of 10 minutes.
After the match, media reports indicated that fans of the home side attacked the team bas of Tamale City outside of the nana Agyemang Badu Park, damaging the bus in the process.
Laster last Saturday evening Tamale City officials released pictures the Team’s Yutong bus showing damages allegedly caused by pelting of stones by the home fans, with their player Isaac Mensah sporting a bandaged head after he was allegedly hit in the eye by a stone during the attack.
As a result of the suspension of the Nana Agyemang Badu Park, Aduana’s next home fixture against Accra Great Olympics on April 16 will be honoured outside Dormaa-Ahenkro.
Two-time Ghana champions Aduana lead the betPawa Premier League table with 44 points after 25 matches, four points adrift of their nearest challengers Bechem United and Medeama who have 41 points each.
