The BKQ Foundation, a Ghanaian-based non-governmental organization, has extended its charity projects to a number of basic schools and institutions, donating thousands of sanitary pads to mostly school girls.

Some of the beneficiaries received six months’ supply of sanitary pads. The various donations form part of the Foundation’s activities marking this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

The BKQ Foundation, founded by the Group Chairman of Allied Consortiums, Mr. Benjamin Kofi Quashie, noted on its website that the ongoing sanitary pad donation “reaffirms our dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of underprivileged girls and women”.

It further maintained, “The BKQ Foundation remains steadfast in our mission to ensure that all women and girls can confidently manage their menstrual cycles with dignity, comfort, and security.”

E.P BASIC SCHOOL

The Foundation partnered Mama Adom Dakesi IV, the Queen Mother of Gbi Kpoeta, to organize a heartwarming ‘One Girl Child, One Sanitary Pad’ project at the E.P Basic School in Gbi Kpoeta, Hohoe to supporting young girls in their menstrual health and hygiene needs.

“We are proud to announce that BKQ Foundation was the official sponsors of this initiative. Our foundation contributed 1000 packs of sanitary pads to provide essential support to the girls. Each girl received 6 packs of sanitary pad to support them during their next six menstrual cycles,” it said.

Representatives from the District Health Directorate also played a crucial role by educating the girls on basic hygiene practices during their menstrual cycles. They provided important information on how to use and dispose of sanitary pads correctly, ensuring the girls have the requisite knowledge to stay healthy and comfortable.

AYALOLO 1 AND 2 JHS

The BKQ Foundation continued its sanitary pad donation at Ayalolo 1 and 2 Junior High Schools. Every girl was provided with four packs of sanitary pads to support them through their next four menstrual cycles.

Additionally, all JSS 3 students received mathematical sets in preparation for their pending Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Tein UNIVERSITY OF GHANA

The Foundation had previously partnered with the Tein branch of the University of Ghana, Distance Education to distribute 300 packs of sanitary towels.

The collaboration highlights the importance of education and advocacy in addressing the stigma associated with menstruation.

By working with individuals and other partners, the Foundation remarked, “we are progressing towards a more inclusive society where menstruation is accepted as a natural part of life.”

“Special recognition goes to the office of WOCOM for their dedication to this cause. Together, let’s break the silence, eliminate the stigma, and strive for a more inclusive world for all.”

FLOWWITHDIGNITY

The Foundation also sponsored this year’s #FlowWithDignity Conference held at the British Council Ghana with 500 packs of sanitary towels and a cash donation.

“Today, on World Menstrual Hygiene Day, we are excited to celebrate a significant milestone at the BKQ Foundation. Through our collaboration with dedicated individuals and NGOs, we have donated over 10,000 packs of sanitary pads to those in need.”
