The Upper East Regional Police Command is on a manhunt for unknown assailants behind the shooting of two personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) stationed at Naagani Basyonde in Garu-Tempane.
The officers were shot on their return to base after foot patrols.
Their AK47 rifles were made away with by the attackers.
According to a press release issued by Command on Monday, the two were rushed to the Bolgantanga Regional Hospital.
“Sadly, one of the officers was pronounced dead by the medical officer,” the statement signed by Public Relations Officer Chief Inspector Abdul-Rahman Sumaila said.
A team of investigators and intelligence officers has been dispatched to the town to aid investigations.
“The Command wishes to assure the general public that thorough investigation is currently underway to unravel the crime and bring perpetrators to justice.”
