The Madina District Court II on Friday, November 7 sentenced two Nigerians to imprisonment for providing false information to the National Identification Registration officials.
Isaac Ike and Emmanuel Innocent Egbe are said to have breached Section 40(1)(a) of the National Identity Register Act and Section 166 of the Criminal Offences Act.
Isaac Ike was found guilty for posing as Alex Kwesi Brown Appiah, 20. He was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment for providing false information and 13 months for possessing forged documents.
Emmanuel Innocent Egbe, who posed as Innocent Emmanuel Kodom, 24, got 12 months for providing false information and 13 months for possessing forged documents.
Both sentences are to run concurrently.
“The Court further ordered that both convicts be deported to Nigeria after serving their prison terms,” a press statement issued by the National Identification Authority (NIA) said.
“They have been handed over to the Nsawam Prisons Authority to serve their sentences.”
The NIA commended the collaboration of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service attached to the Authority and the Attorney General’s Department for the successful prosecution.
“We are by this assuring the public that the NIA remains steadfast in working with security and judicial agencies to detect, investigate and prosecute offenders.”
