Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is taking the next phase of his ‘Our Journey Together’ to the Central Region, regarded as a crucial region in the 2026 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Primaries.
Dr Bawumia, who has relentlessly been touring constituencies across the country, completed a tour of the Volta Region over the weekend, and has now moved straight to the Central Region, beginning today, Monday, November 17.
The former Vice President began the Central Regional tour in Awutu Senya East Constituency, Monday morning.
He is expected to visit Gomoa East, Awutu Senya West and Effutu constituencies later in the day to complete Day 1 of the Central Regional tour, which will take him to all 23 constituencies.
Central Region has become a region of interest in the 2026 primaries for Dr. Bawumia as it is the home region of closest contender Kennedy Agyapong, who, until the latest parliament, was the MP for Assin Central.
However, ahead of the election in January, surveys have consistently projected Dr. Bawumia as being ahead of Kennedy Agyapong in the Region – an advantage the former Vice President is seeking to consolidate with his direct visits to constituencies.
Global Info Analytics, in its regional analysis for the NPP election released at the end of September, indicated that Dr. Bawumia was ahead in the Central Region by 57% with Kennedy Agyapong following with 32%.
With the polls being conducted when Dr. Bawumia had not toured the Region, his campaign would expect to consolidate his lead with his charisma and direct interactions with party delegates
