The Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has confirmed that President John Dramani Mahama has received petitions from some citizens for the removal of not only the Chair of the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) and her two deputies but also the head of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Mr Kwakye Ofosu observed that President Mahama has only followed due process by referring the petitions to the Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, who was sworn in barely a fortnight ago.
“Every process that needed to be done has been undertaken,” the Government Communications Minister told Accra-based Joy FM on Monday, December 1 when queried about the petitions.
“The process for doing so is quite clear. At this stage, the process has left the hands of the president beyond conveying the petitions to the Chief Justice.
“There’s little else that the president does in this particular instance. Everything now rests with the Chief Justice, who I believe will act in accordance with Ghanaian law.”
Seven petitions are said to be seeking the removal of Jean Adukwei Mensa and her two deputies, Dr Bossman Asare, who is in charge of Corporate Services, and Samuel Tettey, who superintends over Operations.
Three petitions are seeking the removal of Kissi Agyebeng, who is the second officer after Martin Alamisi Amidu to occupy the office.
This process comes after a similar process was triggered for the removal of Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo as Chief Justice.
