The Ghana Education Service has directed the headmaster of Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School to temporarily step aside following allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students, according to an official letter circulating Monday.
The order, issued through the Regional Directorate of Education, instructs Headmaster Joshua Vidzro to immediately relinquish his duties while authorities investigate the allegations. The directive states that Vidzro must hand over all records, school property and administrative responsibilities to the Municipal Director of Education for Ketu North Municipality.
According to the letter, the decision aims to “guarantee the integrity of the investigative process” and prevent any real or perceived interference as inquiries begin. Officials emphasized that the directive is an administrative measure and does not constitute a presumption of guilt.
Vidzro has been instructed to vacate the school premises beginning Monday, Dec. 8, after completing the handover. He is required to remain available to assist investigators and is barred from any direct or indirect contact with the female students involved or potential witnesses.
The Municipal Director of Education for Ketu North has been tasked with taking over day-to-day management of the school until further notice.
The Ghana Education Service did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the scope of the investigation or the timeline for its completion. Details of the allegations have not been disclosed publicly, and education officials have not indicated whether law enforcement agencies are involved at this stage.
GES routinely places staff on temporary leave when allegations arise against personnel, a procedure officials say is meant to protect students and maintain confidence in the school system while due process unfolds.
No charges have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
