Police in the Eastern South Region have restored calm in the Boadua community following a chieftaincy-related disturbance that threatened to escalate into wider unrest, authorities said Sunday.
In a statement released by the Eastern South Regional Police Command, officers intervened swiftly after receiving complaints on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2025, from the Bretuo Abusuapanin of Boadua. The complaint alleged that a group from the Boadua Aduana Family stormed the Boadua Chief’s Palace, damaged the main entrance, and forcibly entered the premises.
Police said the group allegedly destroyed a shrine at the palace in an apparent attempt to take control of the stool from the Bretuo Family, escalating tensions in the community.
Upon receiving the report, police personnel were immediately dispatched to the area and successfully restored order at the palace, preventing further violence and damage, the command said.
Eight suspects were arrested in connection with the incident to assist with ongoing investigations. Those arrested were identified as Baffour Kwame Agyei Kwabena Twum, Baffour Kwame Annor, Baffour Kofi Dankwa, Maxwell Frimpong, Eric Dankwah, Nana Kwaku Frimpong, Baffour Kwasi Ampaabeng and Baffour Yaw Anya.
Police said the suspects have been granted enquiry bail and are expected to be arraigned before court on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command urged residents to remain calm and refrain from actions that could disrupt peace and security in the community. Authorities emphasized that chieftaincy disputes should be resolved through lawful and traditional channels rather than violence or destruction of property.
“The police remain committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of lives and property,” the statement said.
The command added that investigations into the incident are ongoing and assured the public that anyone found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The statement was signed by DSP David Fianko-Okyere, Head of Public Affairs for the Eastern South Region..
