Two men have been arrested by the Kaneshie Divisional Police Command for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition following a patrol operation at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
The suspects, identified as Kwame Boahen, 35, a pillion rider, and Fatau Alhassan, 52, an okada rider, were arrested on Saturday, December 20, 2025, while riding a Royal motorbike with a faded number plate, police said in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the Police, the arrest followed an earlier encounter on Friday, December 19, when a patrol team spotted the motorbike at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and attempted to stop it for a routine inspection. Upon noticing the officers, the two men abandoned the motorbike and attempted to flee. They were apprehended after a brief chase, during which they resisted arrest.
A subsequent search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a pistol bearing the serial number 39363, with the inscription “CS HEAND SUH,” and seventy-two rounds of ammunition. Police also retrieved several personal items, including an iPhone, an LG smartphone, a BlackBerry phone, a keypad mobile phone and two wristwatches.
The suspects have since been cautioned and are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. All recovered items have been retained as exhibits for evidential purposes, the statement said.
Police are working to trace the owners of the recovered mobile phones and to establish the source of the firearm and ammunition. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspects are linked to other criminal activities within the metropolis.
The Accra Regional Police Command has urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing credible information to support efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety across the region.
