The Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) has announced ongoing works to connect a newly constructed power generation plant at Anwomaso, Kumasi, to the national electricity grid, a move expected to improve power supply reliability in Kumasi and surrounding communities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, December 21, 2025, GRIDCo said the works are being undertaken by AKSA Energy as part of efforts to bring the Anwomaso plant into full operation. Once commissioned, the facility will add significant generation capacity to serve consumers and strengthen electricity supply in the Ashanti Region and adjoining areas.
The exercise involves the safe connection of the AKSA Anwomaso Generating Plant to the national power system through the 330kV Takoradi–Thermal–Anwomaso Transmission Line. GRIDCo noted that the process is critical to ensuring the secure integration of the new substation into the grid.
The company cautioned that the works may require a temporary interruption in power supply to some customers, estimated to last about three hours. Electricity supply to affected areas is expected to be fully restored by 11:00 p.m. on Sunday.
GRIDCo apologised for any inconvenience the interruption may cause and assured residents that the activity is necessary to enhance the stability, efficiency and long-term reliability of electricity supply in Kumasi and neighbouring communities.
