President John Dramani Mahama has served notice the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP) will be reviewed under his presidency.
He said his government is ready to do this in order to pay workers better in order to spur them on to give off their best.
Addressing concerns raised by the President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), President Mahama gave a firm assurance that his government is ready for the review.
“I can say we are ready to do that so that we are able to remunerate people better so that they can give off their best in terms of what they happen to do,” he stated at GNAT’s 7th Quadrennial Delegates Congress on Monday, January 5.
The announcement has been welcomed by Organised Labour with Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Dr Joshua Ansah insisting it is long overdue.
He is confident the review will be implemented before close of this year.
For the National President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Cabornu, the review must ensure equity, which is lacking with the Policy.
He said efforts to review the salary structure has been slow and the commitment of the President comes as a welcoming news.
