Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has received the United Kingdom’s High Commissioner, Christian Rogg, for talks aimed at deepening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The meeting, held on January 6, 2026, focused on elevating Ghana–UK relations to a strategic partnership to strengthen cooperation in key areas including economic growth, governance and education.
Mr Ablakwa outlined Ghana’s efforts to drive economic development through targeted investments, industrialisation and job creation. He highlighted government measures designed to improve fiscal discipline, strengthen public institutions and support small and medium-sized enterprises, which he described as critical to sustainable growth. The minister also pointed to ongoing initiatives to promote regional stability.
High Commissioner Rogg praised Ghana’s progress in governance, economic management and democratic reforms, describing the country as a reliable partner in West Africa. He reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to expanding cooperation, particularly in education, skills development and institutional capacity-building.
Both sides agreed that closer collaboration between relevant institutions in Ghana and the UK would be essential to the effective implementation of joint initiatives. They noted that strengthened institutional linkages would help deliver tangible benefits and reinforce long-standing ties between the two nations.
The discussions underscored a shared commitment to advancing mutually beneficial relations, as Ghana and the UK seek to build a more structured partnership capable of responding to shared economic and development priorities.
