The Health Minister has ordered a comprehensive audit of health facilities in the Oti Region and directed the introduction of 24-hour cleaning services in public hospitals nationwide, as part of efforts to raise standards in healthcare delivery.
Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, MP, issued the directive during the Ministry of Health’s two-day management retreat. He instructed the Ministry’s Technical Advisor, Dr. Korku Awoonor, to constitute a technical working group to carry out the audit.
According to the Ministry, the assessment will examine the structural integrity, operational capacity and overall productivity of health facilities in the Oti Region. The exercise is intended to strengthen service delivery, safeguard patient safety and ensure facilities meet approved safety, quality and performance standards.
The audit forms part of a broader government agenda to improve oversight of health infrastructure and address longstanding gaps in the management of public health facilities across the country.
In a related move, the Health Minister ordered the introduction of 24-hour cleaning services in all public hospitals nationwide. The measure is aimed at improving hygiene standards, enhancing infection prevention and control, and creating safer, more patient-friendly healthcare environments.
Health sector officials say the round-the-clock cleaning initiative will support clinical care by reducing health-associated infections and improving overall patient experience in public hospitals.
Together, the two interventions reflect the Ministry’s renewed focus on proactive supervision, improved facility management and accountability within the health sector. Officials say sustained investment in infrastructure, hygiene and quality assurance remains critical to delivering reliable healthcare services and restoring public confidence in Ghana’s health system.
