The Ministry of Education has signed a memorandum of understanding with QG Construction UK Limited to develop an Institute of Green and Sustainable Science and Technology at the Acherensua Campus of the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences (UEAS), Bunso.
The planned institute is expected to serve as a hub for practical learning, industry collaboration and applied research, as Ghana accelerates efforts to promote sustainable development and build a green economy. Officials say the project will help position UEAS as a key centre for innovation in science and technology.
According to the ministry, the initiative will strengthen research, training and innovation in areas such as green technology, climate-smart agriculture and sustainable engineering. The institute is also designed to equip students with practical skills needed to support Ghana’s environmental and economic transformation.

Education sector analysts say the partnership reflects growing emphasis on aligning higher education with national development priorities, particularly in response to climate change and sustainability challenges. By integrating applied research with industry engagement, the project is expected to enhance graduate employability and support long-term economic resilience.
The development at UEAS forms part of broader efforts to expand specialised tertiary education and foster innovation-led growth across the country.
