The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central Constituenc, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, as replacement to Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga on the committee to investigate the allegations of bribery and vote buying in last Saturday’s primaries.
The party had set up a three-member committee to not only investigate the widespread inducement and vote buying but also recommend sanctions where applicable.
It was to be chaired by party stalwart Kofi Totobi Quakyi with Mr Ayariga and Emefa Fugah as members.
But following a petition by the Majority in Parliament to have the primaries annulled due to the widespread malpractices, Mr Ayariga, who is the Majority Leader, withdrew members from the committee.
“In view of the position taken by the Caucus of the NDC in Parliament regarding cancellation of the Ayawaso East primary, it has become untenable for me to serve on the Investigation Committee set up by the National Executive of the NDC,” Mr Ayariga stated.
“I have therefore notified the party that a suitable replacement should be appointed.”
A few moments afterwards, the party named the former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources as the new member.
“The NDC has appointed former MP and Minister, Hon. Inusah Fuseini to replace Hon Mahama Ayariga on the committee investigating the reported vote buying incidents in the Ayawaso East Primaries,” a statement issued by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey said.
“Hon Ayariga had to step down because his position on the Committee became untenable following the declared position of the majority caucus.”
The party scribe assured that the NDC remains committed to upholding the highest integrity in its internal electoral process.
