The Wa District Magistrate Court has convicted three individuals, Yiritang Boosi, Yahaya Samad, and Adams Alhassan, for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in the Wa West District.
The accused, who were previously remanded in custody, appeared before His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako. All three pleaded guilty to the charges of possessing firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.
Based on their pleas, the court sentenced each of the convicts to a fine of 200 penalty units, equivalent to GH₵2,400. Those unable to pay the fine will serve nine months’ imprisonment in default.
The convictions underscore the commitment of law enforcement and the judiciary to curbing firearm-related offences in the region.
Mr. Francis Yiribaare, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Regional Commander of the Upper West Region, urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the Police in their fight against criminality.
