Officials from the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) have provided an update on a newborn baby discovered abandoned near Bronyibima Estate. The infant, believed to be around one day old, is receiving medical attention and is reported to be in stable condition.
The Department of Social Welfare has taken temporary custody of the child to ensure her safety, while the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with social welfare officers, continues efforts to identify and locate the mother or any close relatives.
The Ministry commended local community members who rescued the baby and urged anyone with information relevant to the investigation to come forward. Authorities emphasised that the child’s welfare remains the top priority, and appropriate arrangements have been made to provide care while family tracing continues.
MoGCSP also appealed to parents or guardians facing challenges with unplanned or crisis pregnancies to seek assistance from social welfare services. The public is encouraged to access the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope Call Centre on toll-free lines 0800-800-800 or 0800-900-900 for support, guidance, or to report information that may help protect children and vulnerable persons.
The Ministry reiterated that abandoning a child constitutes a serious violation of their rights and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all children in Ghana.
