Some Black Queens players have reached out to their families to get them out of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where they have been since the Middle East conflict broke out.
The conflict has seen missiles thrown across the skies in the Gulf region, leading to security concerns.
Flights to and fro the region have been cancelled or at best rescheduled while most countries are making frantic efforts to evacuate citizens.
However, the country’s senior national women’s team has been in the UAE for the Pink Ladies Cup and were also putting finishing touches to preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to be held in Morocco.
Tensions between Israel and Iran heightened after their first match against Hong Kong, who have since left Dubai due to the war.
According to reports, Russia, who lost to the Queens in their second game, also left the region over same security concerns.
An audio intercepted by NewsfileGH.com reveals that some players have already been calling for help.
“We don’t know why we are still here because the tournament is all but over,” the voice of one of the players said.
“The neighbouring houses around the hotel we are in are engulfed in smoke and it is becoming scarier by the day as we are told the war is now beginning,” the voice said as she sent an SOS to her family to arrange her return.
They are alleging that the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, claimed there was no money to get them back when he was contacted to facilitate their evacuation.
The Queens were scheduled to play their final game against Tanzania on Friday, after which they will head to Morocco for the AFCON.
