The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ghana), in collaboration with the Embassy of Peru in Ghana, has launched a commemorative publication celebrating nearly four decades of diplomatic relations between Ghana and Peru.
The book, titled “Peru–Ghana: A Journey of Friendship and Cooperation,” was unveiled on Thursday, March 5, 2026, in Accra. Developed as part of Peru’s “Immortalizing Bilateral Relations” series, the publication documents key milestones in the relationship between the two countries since the establishment of formal diplomatic ties in 1987.
Speaking at the launch, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, described the book as an important record of the shared journey between the two nations. He noted that the publication reflects the steady development of diplomatic ties between countries located on opposite sides of the Atlantic but united by shared commitments to democracy, multilateralism and inclusive development.

Mr Ablakwa also highlighted the historic contributions both countries have made to global diplomacy through leadership within the United Nations. He referenced the legacies of former UN Secretaries-General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar of Peru and Kofi Annan of Ghana, whose leadership, he said, continues to inspire international cooperation.
According to the minister, Peru remains an important partner for Ghana in areas such as trade, education, tourism, cultural exchange and multilateral diplomacy. He added that the book not only reflects past achievements but also offers a roadmap for strengthening future collaboration and translating longstanding diplomatic goodwill into tangible development outcomes.

Peru’s Ambassador to Ghana, Rosa Liliana Gómez de Weston, said the commemorative book symbolises the enduring friendship between the two nations. She noted that both countries share similar historical experiences shaped by struggles for independence, nation-building and development.
The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders, senior government officials and academics, highlighting the growing cooperation between the two countries.
